Structured cabling system (SCS)
Nowadays a structured cabling system (SCS) is an integral part of almost every building: from warehouses to residential buildings and data centers. SCS enables operation of such systems as:
-
Local area network (LAN);
-
IP, DECT and analogue telephony;
-
WI-FI wireless networks;
-
Security systems (automatic fire alarm, security alarm system, access monitoring and control system, video surveillance system);
-
Automation and supervision systems;
-
Multimedia systems etc.
The system comprises such SCS elements as network sockets and modules, optical and electrical cable lines, marshalling equipment, plug wires, adapters and telecommunication cabinets. Very often during design theSCS section for small facilities include a cable support structure system.
The SCS consists of the following subsystems:
-
Main subsystem of the I level (external lines);
-
Main subsystem of the II level (internal lines);
-
Horizonal subsystem.
The main subsystem of the I level is built if a facility comprises several distributed along the territory buildings and enables communication between the main marshalling room of the facility and marshalling cabinets of the building. This system comprises primary fiber-optic single-mode or multi-mode cables, optical marshalling cabinets and patch cords. All the equipment is installed inmarshalling racks or telecommunication cabinets. Subsystem topology: “Ring” or “Star”. The main marshalling room may be integrated with the marshalling cabinets of the building.
The main subsystem of the II level is built in case the building has several floors or is long and is designed for providing communication between the main marshalling room of the building and marshalling cabinets on the floors. The system is primary composed of fiber-optic multi-mode and/or copper cables of twisted pair type of 6 and 6a categories, optical marshalling cabinets, copper patch panels and plug wires. All the equipment is installed inmarshalling racks or telecommunication cabinets. The topology of the system is, as a rule, “Star”, “Hierarchy Star (Tree)” or “Ring”. The marshalling room of the building may be integrated with floor marshalling cabinets with/or server room of the facility.
Horizontal subsystem is an obligatory element of SCS and provides communication between floor marshalling cabinets and terminating equipment. The system is primary composed of copper cables, twisted pair cables of 5e, 6 and 6a category, patch panels, network sockets and plug wires. All the equipment is installed inmarshalling racks or telecommunication cabinets. The system topology is “Star”, as a rule. Floor marshalling cabinets may be integrated with the facility server room.
The reliability of the system is increased by the redundancy of SCS cable lines. In this case if there is a failure of the main SCS line, LAN active equipment is switched to transmitting data via spare channels.
To provide operation of different systems in SCS environment, it shall strongly correspond to certain requirements in terms of structure, design element parameters and technical parameters of data transfer environment.
All these requirements are stated in the main state and international regulatory documents:
-
GOST R 53246-2008 Information technology (IT). Structure cabling systems. Main system elements design. General requirements
-
GOST R 53245-2008 Information technology (IT). Structure cabling systems. Designing of the main assemblies of system. Test methods;
-
ISO/IEC IS 11801-2002 «Information Technology. Generic cabling for customer premises;
-
TIA/EIA-568-B Commercial Building Telecommunications Wiring Standard (American standard);
-
CENELEC EN 50173 Information Technology. Generic cabling systems» (European standard).
Also in industry regulatory documents.
ST Solution LLC has a vast experience in designing, mounting and updating of structured cable systems on the basis components of such producers, as Hyperline, DKC, ITK, Legrand, Cabeus, Nikomax, LANMASTER, LANUNION, Eurolan, Leviton/Brandrex, Simon. From the first steps of architecture designing to project implementation our specialists will help to create a SCS corresponding to all the necessary requirements and regulations, to implement accreditation and get a system warranty for the system from the SCS component manufacturer.
We will be glad to develop and implement the WEMS projects in the following fields:
-
industrial facilities
-
office buildings
-
trade and recreation centers
-
data processing centers
-
car dealerships
-
greenhouse complexes
-
residential buildings
-
culture facilities
and others
