Gas Fire Extinguishing Systems
Automatic gas fire extinguishing systems also called systems with application of pure agent are used for protection of premises, where valuable assets and sensitive equipment is located, which may not be protected by traditional spray units due to possible damage by water. Such systems are usually used for protection of telecommunication facilities, clean rooms, server rooms, data processing centers, museums, hospitals, power plants, financial institutions, aviation and military facilities.
The list of gas fire extinguishing agents is determined by SP 485.1311500.2020. Automatic fire-extinguishing systems and allows application of the following gases: halon 23, halon 227e, halon 125, halon 218, halon 318 Ts, FK-5-1-12 (Novec 1230™), nitrogen, argon, inergen, carbon dioxide, sulphur hexafluoride (SF6 gas).

CO2, halons and inert gases have particularities limiting the possibility of their application. Some are toxic and can’t be used for protection of premises with people, others are explosive with ignition of several metals and require inert diluting agents. The most advanced solution is application of the fire extinguishing agent Novec 1230™ developed by 3M™ company. This agent is ecologically pure, not toxic, does not damage sensitive equipment and does not leave traces, which makes it an ideal choice for protection of premises with people, electrical equipment and electronics. The GFES based on it are compact, require less space for storage of cylinders and with integration with early or very early smoke detection apparatuses the emission of combustion products and damage of expensive assets is minimized.
When designing the GFES many factors shall be considered, such as the type of the fire-extinguishing unit (modular or centralized), weight and type of the extinguishing agent, diameters and routing of pipes, number of heads, method (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or a combined start) and time of the extinguishing gas delivery, as well as the ways of its removal from the protected premises.

Design and mounting of the GFES may be implemented only by organizations that have a special valid license of the Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Response for such works. ST Solution LLC has a valid license of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to carry out activities on installation, maintenance and repair of fire safety equipment of buildings and structures dated 77 No. Б/00848.
The scope of design documentation for the GFES developed by our company comprises:
-
Explanatory note;
-
