Access Control and Management System
Access control and management system (ACMS) is designed for prevention of unauthorized access to the supervised area, access control in accordance with the level of access permit, registration of object displacement (people, transportation) through the passage points to the territory of the facility, informing of security service employees about unauthorized penetration through the passage points.
The highest efficiency of the ACMS system is achieved with integration of video surveillance systems and a security alarm system, but may be used at the facility as a separate system.
The ACMS equipment may be
-
Central;
-
Peripheral.
The central equipment comprises:
An ACMS server is a software and hardware complex with installed software responsible for centralized control of the system upon the whole, registration and storage of events, interaction with exterior systems at the program level. In a small system the server may implement the functions of an automated work station of the operator, as well as to be installed on virtual machines.
The automated work station of the operator is a personal computer with installed special software. The automated work station is designed for displaying events occurring in the ACMS system, on the operator’s screen, as well as for administration by the operator of the working system parameter (registration/removal/change of user access permit level etc.) There may be several ACMSes installed at the facility with the same access right, as well as with different access rights (for example, ACMS of the Security, ACMS of the Access Control Department, ACMS of the Database Administrator).
An ACMS controller is a central part of the system enabling control of the equipment installed at the passage points. Controllers may be for one-two passage points, for example, Parsec, Bolid, or RusGuard controllers, as well as for several passage points, for example, Sigur, Rubezh or Lenel. Controllers interact with the equipment installed at the passage points directly or through special access modules. Connection of controllers with the server may be effected via the facility LAN or via an interface bus. As a rule, the ACMS controllers may operate centrally under the control of ACMS server, as well as autonomously using its own identification base and maintaining the log of events in the controller internal memory.
ST Solution company has a vast experience in building the ACMS networks depending on the set tasks and may select an optimal topology of the ACMS network for your facility.
Peripheral equipment comprises readers, exit pushbuttons and emergency exit pushbuttons, intruder detection sensors, different actuators (locks, turngates, rising arm barriers etc.), additional ACMS devices which are installed at the passage points.
An ACMS reader is a device designed for reading the identification key and transferring its code to the ACMS controller. There are numerous identification formats in the world, the most widely used are Em Marin, Mifare, HID, Indala, NFC is becoming popular. Readers may be for a certain identification format and be multi-format reading the identification key codes of different formats. To transfer the read code to the controller reader different communication protocols are used: Touch Memory, Wiegand 26, Wiegand 44, RS-232, RS-485, Parsec, Ethernet, OSDP. The right choice of the reader enables quality reading of the identification key code by the controller and provides stable operation of the system.
A separate group is biometric data readers, usually this is a complex device combining a biometric scanner and the ACMS controller. Identification in such systems is implemented not by identification keys, but by biometric data of the object, for example, geometry of the face, fingerprints, reading of vein pattern on the hand. In such systems additional authentication is possible with the help of standard identification keys or additional biometric scanners.
An Exit button is used instead of the reader where personalization of leaving employees is not required. Also some ACMS controllers have a function of an Exit request button. When pushing this button a request for exit passes to the security station and the operator makes a decision to open the doors.
An Emergency exit button is obligatory installed on the evacuation routes and is designed for mechanical deblocking of the evacuation route bypassing the ACMS controller. Instead of the button panic bars may be used (handles on doors and tripod planks on turngates) These buttons are usually connected to security entrances of the ACMS controllers or to the security alarm system to inform the security service about deblocking of the passage point.
Intruder detection sensors are auxiliary devices enabling the ACMS controller to be more reliable in defining the fact of passage through the supervised access point or to determine unauthorized access (without showing the actual identification key). Such devices comprise magnetic contact detectors (sealed contact reed relay), Hall sensors, linear optical alarms, induction loops (control of transportation passage under rising arm barriers). Also space violation detectors may be used, for example, for premises access to which remains open as long as there is someone inside.
Actuators (locks, turngates, rising arm barriers and other items) are devices blocking or otherwise preventing from passage through the supervised access point. Some devices, for example, electromagnetic locks and door latches are controlled directly from the ACMS controllers. Other devices, such as turngates and rising arm barriers are controlled by their own control units according to input signals from the ACMS controllers or from the operator’s control panel.
Additional ACMS devices comprise ticket boxes, alcohol detectors, metal detectors, scales and other devices which may be connected to the ACMS equipment.
Besides security functions, the ACMS installed at the facility may implement other tasks, such as registration and control of the time the visitors are at the territory, record working hours.
