Automatic Fire Alarm System
Automatic fire alarm system (AFAS) is a set of technical means, which main purpose is to quickly and accurately reveal the source of ignition and emit fire signals for launching of people informing systems and controlling technical fire safety means, process, electrical and other equipment (SP 484.1311500.2020, item 3.26 )
Requirements to fire safety are stipulated in FZ No. 123 dated 22.07.2008.
According to regulatory documents effective from March 1, 2021 (SP 486.1311500.2020), almost all public, industrial and administrative buildings must be equipped with a fire alarm system.
The AFAS is a responsible engineering system, which design, mounting and operation shall be implemented in strict conformance to current regulations, but the activity to create and maintain the AFAS systems is licensed. ST Solution LLC has a valid license of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to carry out activities on installation, maintenance and repair of fire safety equipment of buildings and structures dated 77 No. Б/00848.
By the way of fire source detection the AFAS are divided into targeted and non-targeted (addressable) systems. In the first case the system informs the operator about fire with indication of the address of the actuated alarm, in the second case it indicates the number of the bus line in the receiving and control device, where the alarm is connected to.
By the way of detecting fire the alarms are divided into threshold (maximum), maximum differential and analogue. In the threshold alarm the Fire signal is delivered to the receiving and control device when the fire factor (temperature, smoke, flame) reaches a certain threshold value. Maximum differential ones read not only the threshold value of fire, but also its speed of spreading, which increases the response speed of the system in case of a vast spreading of fire. Analogue alarms deliver to the receiving and control device current information in real time about the technical condition of the protected area (temperature, smoke etc.) and the receiving and control device based on the received data independently determines and forms Fire signal.
By the way of transmitting signal from alarms to the receiving and control device the AFAS are divided into wire and wireless (radio channel). Wireless systems are such as Strelets-PRO from ARGUS-SPEKTR or Astra from TEKO Scientific and Technical Center CJSC. Wire are Orion ISO from Bolid Innovative Company CJSC, RUBEZH R3 from Rubezh Trading House or Cerberus Pro from Siemens.

The AFAS electrical receiver power supply shall be arranged according to reliability category I of power supply. In buildings electrical receivers are referred to reliability category III of power supply, standby power supply of fire safety protection system electrical receivers shall be implemented from an independent autonomous power supply (SP 6.13130) As an independent autonomous power supply batteries may be used of sufficient capacity for continuous power supply during the time requiring for fire safety protection system electronic equipment to perform its functions at the protected facility (based on the explanation of Russia Federal State Establishment All-Russian Research Institute for Fire Protection of Ministry of Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters). Correspondence of the system under design to this requirement is confirmed during the design by battery capacity calculation.
