LIGHTING SYSTEMS
Artificial lighting system is an integral part of electric power supply of the facility.
When providing rated illumination, several factors are taken into consideration, including: costs for arrangement and construction of the lighting system, operational costs, hygienic, industrial and economic effect. Numerous investigations show that providing the required illumination creates normal labor conditions, leads to the increase of labor efficiency by 5-20% and reduces the number of injuries.
When rating the illumination the following characteristics of visual process are taken into consideration:
-
accuracy of work (angular and linear dimension of visible parts with consideration of a distance to them)
-
coefficient of background reflection, where parts are visible
-
contrast between background and a part
-
necessity to look for parts
-
mobility and immobility of the operation surface
-
relative duration of eyestrain within the working day
In an artificial light system the source of light are light fixtures. Usually they are mounted on the ceiling, as this position enables maximum illumination of the premises, but there are exceptions.
Depending on lighting fixtures location there are
-
general illumination systems
-
local illumination systems
-
combined illumination systems
By functional purpose there are the following types:
-
working lighting enables the rated illumination at normal operation of a power supply system.
-
emergency lighting is on in case of working illumination failure.
-
evacuation lighting is designed for evacuation of people. It is on in case of working illumination failure.
-
security lighting is a type of working lighting. Lighting fixtures of security lighting are mounted along the perimeter of the secured territory.
-
after hours lighting is illumination designed for use during non-working hours.
Lighting System Automation
Lighting automation system is a complex of units enabling to control lighting units, adjust the mode of operation so as to make the lighting system more flexible and power-efficient.
By principle of unit control there may be distinguished in the system:
-
centralized systems of lighting control automation
-
distributed control systems
Centralized systems have a central controller, “brain” of the system. They are useful where synchronization of operation is required, as well as high speed of calculations and data transfer. In distribution systems functions are distributed between local controllers. Such systems are more “viable” as failure of one device is a loss of its functions only and does not influence the operation of other devices.
Besides synchronization of operation, automated control of operation has a number of advantages over a traditional one. The main of them:
-
device function does not depend on the connection circuit. There is a possibility to replace devices at the stage of design, as well as after installation. Devices may be adjusted, removed and replaced by the new ones without additional electric mounting works.
-
wired devices support serial connection (two-wire circuit). This facilitates the designing. The system may be scaled after installation. It is possible to flexibly change the number of devices connected to the control point.
-
possibility to adjust “illumination scenarios” for independent operation of the system. The system respects the user settings and “knows” the algorithm of actions. We call a certain scenario by pushing the button. Do you have a meeting or presentation review? You don’t have to walk along the premise to adjust the light. Push the button and windows will close, a beamer will be switched on, ventilation will become active and the light will be reduced to minimum so that it is convenient to review the presentation, but it is visible all around. Have you finished? One push and the light is on again, the screen is removed and you may leave at normal illumination. When everybody is out the presence sensor will automatically switch the light off.
-
power saving. Even the simplest digital system is 20-30% more efficient than an electrical one. Modern advanced systems of lighting control considering numerous parameters (season and time, schedule) have up to 50% efficiency.
-
remote control support from mobile devices and computer. it is easy for the operator and an Operation Service employee to check the condition of the system, centrally switch off the light in the premises, assess the current power consumption at the warehouse or other facility. The system may be protected by password against unauthorized access.
ST Solution LLC has an experience in implementation of building lighting automation and lighting automation at enterprises of different industries with the use of Modbus, DALI, DMX512, Bacnet, KNX and other protocols.
